The "Hantan" in the product name refers to the shape of the rim of the bowl. While the rim of a normal bowl is straight and vertical, this Hantan type is characterized by a slight outward curvature.
The curved shape of the rim makes it comfortable to drink from and highlights the elegance of the bowl. We recommend it as a wedding gift or a keepsake of a turning point in life. It's something you'll use every day, so you'll want to choose the real thing.
The wood is mainly made from Hiba (Japanese cypress) from Noto and finished with natural lacquer. The two main features of the Wajima lacquerware manufacturing process are the use of diatomaceous earth powder called "jinoko" that can only be found in Wajima as a base, and the use of a process called "nunokise" where cloth is applied to reinforce fragile parts of the wood.
